The redfish
bite has been pretty good with most of the fish ranging
from 6-12lbs. The tarpon are still here but the high winds
over the last couple weeks has made the bite a little
tougher. The snook bite has picked up tremendously on the
beaches of Captiva, Sanibel, Boca Grande, and Cayo Costa.
Most mornings are producing a tally upwards of forty fish.
The Mangrove
Snapper are starting to show up but it still isn't where
it should be for this time of the year. With everything a
few weeks behind, I expect the bite to fire off any day
now. I am going to head on vacation for 7-10 days around
the third week of August. If you are looking to schedule
a trip around that time I will not be here but my father,
Capt. Bill Hoke, will be available to run the trip. I
know I have been repetitive about pushing you to book
your September redfish dates, but I have to mention it
again. The fishing is phenomenal and I don't want to be
sitting at home when schools of a thousand redfish are
waiting to be caught. Most everyone that fished with
me last year has already secured their dates, but I still
have quite a few dates open.
I got a sneak
peak at Pure Fishing's new catalog of products they will
be releasing soon. There are some impressive new rods and
reels coming out from Penn, Abu Garcia, and All Star just
to name a few. Penn is introducing a new line of rod and
reel series that are going to be perfect for light tackle
fishing. The new Penn Battle is going to be the reel that
every angler needs to buy. It is well priced, and
cosmetically beautiful. I have tested this reel and I
can't explain to you how impressed I
am. Penn basically took the Sargus, changed the color and
added an HT100 drag system and a better handle. It casts
further than any other reel I have. They also have a Penn
Conquer 8000 coming out. Anglers were asking for
a reel that was just a little meatier than the 7000 and
that's what they got. This is a tough, strong, durable
reel.
I hope everyone is doing well and I look forward to fishing
with you soon.
Tight Lines, Captain Dave Hoke
